It is very important to make sure that your tyres are healthy with plenty of tread going into the winter months. This is because the cold weather will affect braking distances and your tyre response. Here are a few simple tips to ensure your tyres are up for the cold.
- Check the tyres tread depth. This should be measured in various places around the tyre. The legal limit is 1.6 mm but we recommend changing at between 3-4 mm as this is where your tyres will begin to lose performance in the cold and wet.
- Check your tyres are wearing evenly across the face. It is not un-common for tyres to wear faster on the inside than the outside. This can mean that although your tyre looks perfectly good from the outside, on the inside edge, the tyre could be heavily worn or possibly illegal.
