At EcoTyre Services we get asked a lot about winter tyres. This is why we thought we would put together a little Q and A to explain what winter tyres are and whether you should have them on your vehicle.
Q. What are winter tyres?
A. Winter tyres are a slightly different type of tyres that many people prefer to have fitted to their vehicle through the cold/wet months. This is because winter tyres will offer certain advantages in the cold and wet weather over a conventional tyre.
Q. Why are winter tyres different?
A. Winter tyres use a different tread pattern and more rubber than a normal tyre. They also use a softer compound of rubber that will not become hard and brittle in the cold. Winter tyres also provide extra grooves in the tread. On a snowy road these grooves will become full of compact snow that will help the tyre to grip.
Q. What advantages will winter tyres give me?
A. The short answer is that winter tyres will generally give you more grip and shorter braking distance on wet, icy, snowy or slushy roads. A combination a softer rubber and the specially designed tread means these tyres are able to deal with adverse conditions much better than standard tyres.
Q. Are winter tyres expensive?
A. No, winter tyres are not expensive when you use EcoTyre services. Not only will we supply and fit winter tyres at the cheapest possible prices in and around Biggleswade. But we can also take your regular tyres and store them through winter, ready to put them back on in the spring.
